Battle of May 4,1823 - on the center the D.Pedro I

On January 12, 1763  after a construction that took twenty-eight months the man-of-war Santo Antonio was launched by the naval arsenal of  Salvador, province of Bahia.  Then, the ship was comissioned to the Atlantic  where she  engaged  the Spanish vessels that crossed the sea. In 1806 she was rebuilt, taking the name Martin Freitas . When Brazil was made independent in 1822, the ship was added as flagship of the new fleet with the name of D. Pedro I. She took part in the fight against the Portuguese Fleet in the coast of Bahia. In the epic combat of May 4, 1823, Lord Cochrane achieved a major victory against the foe aboard the D.Pedro I. The  ships's casualties on that day was 17 dead and 13 wounded.
