In 1851 the centralism of Buenos Aires gathered Brazil, Uruguay and the northerner provinces of Argentina against Juan Manuel Rosas, Argentina's president. | |||||||||
The Imperial navy quickly blocked Buenos Aires harbor, restricted the movement of the Argentinean Navy (which stayed loyal to the president) and made the landing of troops in order to give combat to Rosas army. | |||||||||
In 1852 in the Batlle of Caseros, Rosas is defeated by the combined force of Justo Jose Urquiza and the Imperial Army. Rosas had to move into exile, while Urquiza became Argentina's new president. |
