The São paulo was the second dreadnought typed vessel delivered to Brazilian Navy. She was built at Great Britain shipyards and launched in 1909. The ship was comissioned in July, 1910. Like his sister Minas Geares, the São Paulo was armed with twelve 12-inchs guns in six twin turrets. Neverltheless, unlike his twin sister, the São Paulo was not modernized in the 1920's. During WWII the ship was placed at Recife harbor as fixed battery guns. The vessel was sold as scrap in 1951 to England. But she never returned to his birthplace. During the trip the ship met stormy conditions and sank on November the 6th with eight men aboard. |
