UMDJ DARED PPC-LED SENATE TO CAUSE THE IMPEACHMENTOF CAYETANO
The Union of the Masses for Democracy and Justice ( UMDJ) today filed a formal request to the Senate through Senate President Franklin Drilon and Sen. Joker Arroyo, to initiate probe and investigation proceedings against their PPC party mate Senator Renato Cayetano for his reported involvement in the BW Stocks Manipulation Scam, and for them to urge their lower house counterpart to initiate impeachment proceedings against the latter.
?The poor would like to test the sincere resolve of the PPC-led Senate to make good with their promise of morality in governance by first cleaning their own backyard.Just as they are quick to raise their voices when a member of the opposition or any of President Joseph Estrada?s allies are link with allege anomalies, the same zeal, enthusiasm and resolve should be shown by them in putting to account their PPC party mates on various reports of scandals and wrong doings committed by their partymates and allies against the people and the nation. The free and full scale investigation of Cayetano on his links with the BW stock manipulation scandal would be a first big step to show proof that they are not practicing ?double standard of justice? and that their propensity to invoke ?morality in governance,? is not as empty as our hungry stomach?, Ver Eustaquio, UMDJ Spokesperson, declared.
?We also call on Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to also provide funds and the necessary resources, just like what she did with the ISAFP fishing expedition on the alleged cases of former PNP Chief and now Senator Panfilo ?Ping? Lacson, to openly support and bankroll the investigation of Senator Cayetano and other anomalies involving her party mates particularly that of former House Speaker and now Senator Manny Villar?s illegal use of government funds to finance his series of self-serving ?ST ads campaign? which gave him advantage over the rest in his Senate bid,? Eustaquio added.
?We also call on Senator Joker Arroyo who prides himself as the ?Kalaban ng mga Corrupt? to spearhead the investigation by chairing the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee and make sure that the truth will come out and no white wash will happen in the course of the probe. As further test to his incorruptible image as chair of the blue ribbon committee, he should voluntarily waive his rights under the bank secrecy law and personally allow the opposition to look into his own bank accounts to convince the poor of his credibility in his fight against corruption in government?, Eustaquio stated.
?We also urge GMA and Justice Secretary Hernando Perez to organize a battery of public and private prosecutors to file cases on the personalities involved in the PEA-Amari and Centennial Expo Scam as recommended by the report prepared by the Independent Citizens Committee which included Atty. and now PPC Senator Kiko Pangilinan as one of its illustrious member,? Eustaquio said.
?GMA in her allies should convince the people, particularly the poor, that they are really serious in the administration of justice in pursuing her anti-corruption campaign and not just after the demolition of known potential presidential rival from the political opposition. We challenge GMA to also use her iron hand with velvet glove to wipe out the crooks and corrupt in her own party, which the people, particularly the poor have long been waiting to see!?
