It happened for the fourth time this year,,, another one of our neighbors' waterline that leads from the street to the house broke the evening of July 16th..  The plumber who was called in said the "big blue" plastic pipe that was used when our houses were built is no longer made... it's life expectancy is 20 years.  Having your water line replaced not only tears up your front yard,,, it also costs anywhere from $2,000 to $6,000!

Dominion Virginia Power is offering it's customers water line insurance for $3.25 a month.  The payment is included in your electric bill.  For more information about the insurance, call 1-866-645-9810 M-F, 8:30am - 5:30pm, or visit www.dom.com. 

For a plumber, try Dinsmore Plumbing ($2,800) or Parrish Services ($6,000).  The Simpsons and the Scholz' both had Dinsmore do their water lines.

New UMHOA Virtual "Back Yard Fence" Established

A new Yahoo! Group for our neighborhood has been established to help us communicate... just like over the back yard fence.  It's an immediate communications extension of our neighborhood web site. You can only see the group if you are registered as a member -- that way it's private for only our neighborhood to share.  

All families who had provided an email address to the Board has been sent an email invitation to join the group.  Only group members will be able to see posted messages, send messages to be posted and receive messages from the group.  There is a neighborhood poll already posted on the group about your use of our bike path. Anyone who has pictures, polls, questions or requests for help to do a special job, please use the new group.

Our neighborhood is safe and secure -- usually. However, your HOA is aware of thefts from two homes in our neighborhood since the first of the year.  

A Neighborhood Alert System using "alert orange" fliers will be placed in your mailbox to inform you of potential situations should they develop in our neighborhood.

If you spot suspicious activity, of course report it to the police immediately. But use this alert system too so we can help each other keep our neighborhood the safe place we enjoy.
