Cephiro - The world, or if you will, alternate demension that Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu are summoned to from Earth.

-chan - A Japanese suffix used mostly for females, indicating friendship and often used when talking to a little girl. Can also be a term of endearment between either sex (i.e. "darling").

CLAMP - The very renowned group of four women who produced the Magic Knight RayEarth manga series, among other manga.

Dojo - Japanese school for training in varius arts of self-defence.

Escudo - Legendary mineral that is very special and is set apart from other minerals in that only it has the ability to "glow," meaning that it will grow or "evolve" in strength and power to match that of its owner. An Escudo sword is the only known thing in Cephiro that will awaken the legendary Mashin. A special feature of Escudo is that it is weilded to specifically suit its user. In otherwords, Hikaru's Escudo sword will turn to flames if anyone other than her picks it up, Umi's to water, Fuu's becomes too heavy to lift, etc.

Fencing - A form of swordplay where the use of rapiers, foils, sabres, or épees is employed. The object is to touch, not to empale, the opponent in the head or torso areas. Padded gear and masks are worn for protection.

Forest of Silence - A very dangerous forest in Cephiro, monsters roam free in it because magic cannot be used within its borders.

Fountain of Eterna - The legendary and very strange fountain that contains Escudo. It is two-demensional and is suspended over a floating wedge of dirt (basically). Escudo was found in it

Kendo - Japanese form of swordplay where bamboo swords are used. Elaborate and beautiful protective gear is worn.

Lexus - Hikaru's Mashin in the OVA series. He basically takes the place of RayEarth, looking like him in both seijyuu and mecha form, and preforming the same spells as him.

Manga - Japanese word literally translated to "comic book." Usually drawn in only black and white. Most all anime series and Japanese video games are based off of manga, including Magic Knight RayEarth. (The RayEarth OVA was not based off of a manga series, however.) As it is a Japanese word, and therefore different than American words, it stays the same whether singular or plural in form.

Mashin - In short, enormous robots, but there's a little more to them than that. (They're really more of a spiritual entity than a machine.) They are the strongest things in Cephiro, even stronger than the Pillar. They are used for battle purposes. The wearer sits in the cockpit, usually located in the chest or forehead area and the Mashin duplicates his/her movements, magnifying them greatly. They can fly and use magic. Selece, Windam, and RayEarth/Lexus were disguised as seijyuu when they were first awakened. As it is a Japanese word, and therefore different than American words, it stays the same whether singular or plural in form.

Mecha - What the Mashin are; gigantic, powerful robots that have a place for a wearer/controler to sit. Duplicate and magnify the wearer's every movement.

Omake - Japanese for "extra."

OVA - Stands for Original Video Animation (known in the U.S. as OAV. It' the same thing.) A video production that is released straight into video format, in contrast to being shown on television or in the theatre. The RayEarth OVAs have nothing to do with either season of the Magic Knight RayEarth television series.

Orb - Spherical communication object that Ferio gave to Fuu. Similar to ovum.

Ovum - Spherical jewel or rock/stone. Worn on the left hand of the three girls in both tv series and OVAs, though they looked different in each production. In the tv series, they were able to store and materialize their weapons from them. Concentrated more predominately on in the OVAs, being the source of the girls' power and where their Mashin came from. Though the same thing, they were not really called ovums in the tv anime, but hand ornaments.

Pillar - The person in Cephiro with the strongest Will. S/he is responsible for the peace and order of Cephiro, praying for it and its people. Cephiro is a direct mirror of the Pillar's heart.

Puu - The high-pitched sound Mokona makes. The only word he can speak. It has no meaning.

Rapier - A long, very slender, two-edged sword with a narrow pointed blade used in fencing.

RayEarth - Hikaru's Mashin in the tv series. He represents fire, spirit, and future. In the OVAs RayEarth was another name for the planet Earth, and was also the name of the Mashin that resulted from the combining of Lexus, Selece, and Windam. Both tv series and OVA series was named after him.

-sama - A Japanese suffix that indicates great, great respect. Literally translates to "honorable." Used only for people who maintain a high and sometimes royal position. (i.e. how Alcione *always* calls Zagato "Zagato-sama" meaning "Lord Zagato" or something to that degree.)

-san - A Japanese suffix used mainly for people who are older than you and/or to indicate great respect and politeness.

SD - Stands for "Super Deformed." It's a style of drawing characters so that they look short and chubby. Done a lot in Magic Knight RayEarth.

Seijyuu - Magical animal/beast/creature; animal that possesses magical powers/abilities/characterisrics. As it is a Japanese word, and therefore different than American words, it stays the same whether singular or plural in form.

Seiyuu - Voice actor or actress for anime series.

Selece - Umi's Mashin. He represents water, virtue, and present.

Shoujo - Japanese for "girl."

Tankoubon - An accumulation of the shorter manga strips into one collective book. Six tankoubon cover the Magic Knight RayEarth series. (Three for the first season and three for the second season.) Tankoubon are usually very small; measure about 4 ˝ x 6 7/8 inches big. As it is a Japanese word, and therefore different than American words, it stays the same whether singular or plural in form.

Tokyo Tower - A tall building in Tokyo that looks very much like the Eiffel Tower. I think CLAMP is obsessed with it or something ^^;;;

Will - A person's Will is what controls his or her destiny in Cephiro. This roughly means that you can do whatever you want if you just believe that you can do it hard enough, but you must truly and utterly believe in yourself otherwise you will fail. For example, Fuu was able to shoot an arrow over 100 meters, a feat that is wholly impossible on Earth and would be in Cephiro, except for the fact that she soundly believed that she could do it. Her strong Will carried that arrow. (I think CLAMP took the easy way out on this one!)

Windam - Fuu's Mashin. He represents wind, intelligence, and past.
