Uzbekistan boosts industrial output 8.1% in 2001

Uzbekistan posted industrial output of 2.88 trillion sums in
2001, an increase of 8.1%, the economy and statistics ministry said in a report
on the country's socioeconomic development last year. Industrial producers
prices went up 42.2% year-on-year. Consumer goods production rose 10.9% to
1.33 trillion sums, gross agricultural production rose 4.5% to 2.09 trillion
sums, and the volume of construction work increased 3.3% to 544.4 billion
sums. Fixed capital investment totaled 1.19 trillion sums, up 3.7%. Foreign
trade turnover totaled $6.4 billion, up 3.1%, with exports accounting for
51% of overall foreign trade. GDP grew 4.5% to 4.868 trillion sums in actual
prices. The official exchange rate on March 6 stood at 693.72 sums/$1.
