Uzbek President's Nowruz Address To The Nation

Posted 03/22/2002 //Uznews.com//

Nationwide Nowruz celebration started in Uzbekistan and President Karimov made the following speech at the Holiday ceremony in Tashkent this morning: Good morning, dear fellow countrymen, respected guests. I first of all want to heartily congratulate you, and our entire people through you, on this holiday of goodness and tenderness, the Nowruz holiday which has come to our land. Over the last 10 years we have overcome numerous obstacles along the path towards building a life no worse than anyone else's, a free and prosperous life; we have overcome various difficulties and drawn lessons for ourselves, surprised those who envy us, pleased our friends and reached these days. At this happy time I would like us all to deeply realize one truth: the fate of a person, family and society, generations and the nation, their present and future happiness, bright and great future are in the hands of us all. We must never forget that the achievement of these high goals depends on our activeness, energy, power, friendliness and unity. Another importance of Nowruz is its power to unite people, the whole of society. Just look, dear friends, brothers, is there any ethnic group or nationality not represented in his large ceremony? These days in all towns and villages, vast steppes and hills representatives of our all fellow countrymen, irrespective of their nationality, language and religion, are celebrating Nowruz as holiday of spring and joy and this has become a bright symbol of our present life. Let us, friends, congratulate all our foreign guests, representatives from foreign embassies and international organizations who are attending this festivity today once again on Nowruz on behalf of our people and express our respect for them. [Applause] Taking advantage of this occasion, looking on the happy faces of you, my dear fellow countrymen, I would like to convey to you the greetings and wishes sent from close and distant countries, the growing respect of the world community for and recognition of and confidence in our motherland, Uzbekistan, and once again want to bow to you, dear fellow countrymen, and through you to all our people.
