After came back from Chicago, I decided to cross the state line to Indiana, visit Danville and Kickapoo state park on my way back.
The tour started at about 5:44 in the morning of Sunday, June,3 from Urbana (Oregon/Busey). After reaching downtown urbana, stopped by a few red lights, the real crossing started before 6:00 in the morning. By "real crossing", I mean a NON-STOP (i.e. without any foot ever touching the ground, without any stop of the bike) bike ride crossing state line. I wear 2 long sleeved shirts, with a backpack with tools, food and water.Clearly it's a travel, not race. The bike is still the $89 heavy mountain bike. About 2 hour and 19 minutes, reached center of Danville,in about 2 hour and 43 minutes, shortly after 8, I crossed the state line, then passed Foster, IN, until crossed Wabash river reached a bigger town and finally I feel like I got a flat tire, so stopped near a church to check my bike. This is the first time I stopped my bike after leaving downtown Urbana and my feet landed on the Indiana ground - the first time in my life I was in Indiana land with my feet on it. How exciting! Passing Danville, run a few red lights, without any stop!
My tires were OK. I thought it may got flat maybe because the fraction of the tire with the road, maybe on an upword slop, or maybe I got a little bit tired. I realized that I need a better bike.
"Maybe I also crossed the time line and come to a new time zone", I thought. So after went a further mile or so, I turned back, went to a shop near a gas station, got a drink. I asked someone in the store, the time was still the same as in Illinois. I was confused. It seems to me I have to cross time zone next time.
Next, I came back to Danville(Check photo 7 below with time on it) and visited the Vermilion Lake, then heading to Kickapoo park. This time it took me a great trouble. I ask several people, went to a lot of dead ends and wrong ways, truned round and round for several hours, went up down slopes many many times and got tired. But finally, I found the park. My first sight was the mountain bike path sign. Because it just after several rains, the parth got very muddy,I left and toured several other places like the "inland sea". Not as interesting as I thought.
In the following photos, all of them are on my way back. Photo 1 and 2 are in Indiana.Photo1 is taken on the bridge of Wabash river. Photo 3-6 are on state line. Photo 7 and 8 are Danville area community college. Photo 9 and 10 are Vermilion Lake. Photo 9 I think is interesting because there are 2 eggs there! Enjoy it!
