Our Mission
It is the express will of Pope John Paul II,. that "respect must everywhere be shown for the feelings of those who are attached to the Latin liturgical tradition" (Ecclesia Dei, 6c) not simply by theoretical assent to the lawfulness of the former rites but by a wide and generous response to requests for their celebration. His Holiness also said : "In this matter I ask for the support of the bishops and all those engaged in the pastoral ministry in the Church." It is in this spirit,. Una
Voce Savannah, has petitioned our bishop, his Excellency
Kevin Boland, Bishop of the Diocese of Savannah ,
for permission to celebrate the Tridentine
Mass on a regular basis at a central
location. We continue to collect signatures
for this petition on a daily basis. And, as the support
for the Mass continues to grow, we ask all our
members to keep this special intention in their daily prayers.
We believe that using the rites which were the form of Catholic worship for over 1,500 years will preserve the traditional emphasis on the Mass as Sacrifice, with its central teaching of transubstantiation. This, in turn, will help reverse the decline in vocations.... By introducing the Latin Mass to our children, they will be imbued from an early age with a sense of the sacred. Our members are dedicated to ensuring
that the Roman Mass codified by St. Pius V, is maintained
as one of the forms of eucharistic worship which
are honored in universal liturgical life, and
to restoring the use of Latin, Gregorian
Chant, and sacred polyphony in Catholic liturgy.
We Catholics possess a living heritage. We owe a duty to our posterity to transmit it in its fullness, and as a living tradition.... This is not only the feeling of Una Voce - Savannah, it is the teaching of all the postconciliar Popes.
