Little is known of Grissom's personal life, actually sometimes we worry if he has a personal life or nots ince he is so close to his racing cockroaches and still waiting for the Komodo Dragon on back order :o).
He once dated a lab technician, which was like for the first episode and she obviously didn't like Pink Floyd LOL! I mean it's pretty obvious when she wears cowboy boots to work and asks for Grissom to;
Pin me up against the wall and lay one on me like you mean it
There's been no mention of any former marriages or girlfriends, and the closest he came to a girlfriend was forensic anthropologist Teri Miller. Grissom didn't seem to know how to make it work, as he got a 'dopey look in his eye' as Catherine would say. Despite the fact that both Grissom and Teri both liked tarantulas, and shared similar interests, it just didn't work but I bet if he tried with Catherine it would don't ya'll agree?
We know that Grissom's mother was deaf. She taught him how to sign when he was little and using it in a case at a deaf college. There's no indication - as yet - that he has any siblings. However, he does own two tarantulas, which he appears to keep in his office); a maggot farm, and "Miss Piggy" in fermeldahyde...I guess you can consider those as his brothers and sisters :o).
Grissom also "nearly blew up the house" as a six-year-old when he was given a Chemlab 500 chemistry set that he wanted to give Catherine's cute little daughter Lindsey for her b-day.
He keeps his personal life very private; even his team, besides Catherine, didn't know about his mother, a fact he instead shared with the teacher at the deaf school. However, Grissom said that once every 9 years and 34 days, he feels like sharing, so he took Warrick on a roller coaster ride for his evaluation.
He lives in a townhouse ("hermetically sealed condo," as Catherine nicknames it), some place he does not like to share with other people, as he is a very quiet and shy guy who lets Catherine do all the talking as she is the "people person". Although we did catch a glimpse of the inside in Strip Strangler when Catherine & the team came to his house to work the case.
We haven't seen his bedroom yet, so perhaps that's where he keeps the TV(the big screen one Catherine alluded to in "Pledging Mr. Johnson"). The bedroon is somewhere Catherine and Grissom should explore...together...ohh kinky ;o).
Forensic work can be depressing, and if a case gets particularly bad, Grissom unwinds by going on roller coasters. Fortunately for him roller coasters are accessible 24-7 in Las Vegas he even holds records in some parks, beacuse he's a roller coaster FREAK!. Gil also loves to solve puzzles, even when he's not on the job. He delights in filling out advanced crossword puzzles although Catherine swears they are genius.
He's very well read. Grissom has quoted from a variety of sources: Robert Frost, Shakespeare, obscure childrens' nursery rhymes, Humpty Dumpty, Sherlock Holmes, to name just a few. He's a little behind in current drug slang, as he didn't know what a bidi was but he did know what a switch was at Lady Heather's Dominon...kinky LOL!. He subscribes to and read several forensic journals, as well as having quite an insight on the mile high club, alothough unlike his younger college Sara has never been a member of, or has he? dun dun dun!

Grissom is also in charge of the night shift at the Las Vegas Criminalist's Bureau. He was promoted to Supervisor after the death of Holly Gribbs when Brass was sent back to Homicide. Catherine Willows is his second-in-command, as well as secret lover while Nick, Warrick and Sara report directly to him. He's slowly getting the hang of handling the paperwork involved in his job as Supervisor but never leave him a mesage because he will not get to them, or maybe even find them on his cluttered desk.
Gil also loves his job -- it's basically his life. It's the scientific puzzle-solving aspect he enjoys, but he hates the politics and paperwork. Catherine considers him "politically tone-deaf," which is a good description as he refused to play politics and told the press that he felt the FBI had not caught the Strip Strangler, that through him off the case but his team did not abandon him. Grissom once said he curses more in his job now that he does paperwork. He doesn't worry about comitting 'professional suicide,' or
at least not while I'm doing it.
Although he excels at science (he considers himself a "science geek") he is not as good with live people, such as when he let the Marlowes see their long-lost daughter, or when he went to talk to serial killer Syd Goggle without any backup. This is probably because he likes to study people, but doesn't anticipate the long-reaching consequences of his actions. Bad Grissom! That can cost you your life, well at least in his job.
Instead of just supervising his subordinates, he actually teaches them by letting them experiment in order to solve the case. In fact, Sara was a former student of his, and after Holly Gribbs' unfortunate demise, he brought her in to help solve the case and she joined the team permanently, whoo hoo! I love Sara I think she is an awesome CSI, and I think she deserves to be a part of the number 2 crime lab in the USA. He's protective of his team, and supports them when they get into trouble.
He's said he has problems with only three things:
guys who hit on their wives, "unwanted touching" on children, and the 'scum that deal death (drugs) to kids.'
He encountered all three during the first season, but didn't let it color the way he handled the cases. One case where he got upset was the death of a kidnapped baby, and he actually forced Greg to push aside important lab work to handle that case. The other case was Paul Millander, a serial killer who outsmarted Grissom and is still at large. No doubt Millander is stuck on the 'fish board' where Grissom puts unsolved cases ("the ones that got away").
Like the other CSIs, he does carry a gun, and has pulled twice while on the job: 1) when Amy pulled a gun on Nick in "Who Are You?" and when going to Sara's 'rescue' in "Strip Strangler." He's never fired the weapon and now in the newer seasons he doesn't even carry one. Although one time he did go to a shooting range and shoor a target with alot of nice bulls-eyes. At least we know if he really needed to, he has impecable aim :o).
