I was met at the airport by my uncles Malcolm and Seamus. That night we all went out for dinner to celebrate my sister's 30th birthday. Next day we took the cable car to the top of Grouse Mountain, where there is a restaurant with great views over Vancouver, a cheesy but very entertaining lumberjack show, skiing in winter, and two orphaned grizzly bears in a very large, very natural enclosure. |

There is also a short nature trail and that is where I took this photo. Later on that evening, we went out for dinner again to celebrate my Aunt Marie's 60th birthday. |

Nexy day we took the ferry across to Victoria on Vancouver Island, where we spent 3 hours on a whale watching trip. We did see whales, a lone Minke whale and a Humpback mother with calf. Unfortunately we didn't get too close to any of them. You kind of hope to see them jumping out of the water and coming right up within touching distance but I guess what we saw was more or less all we could have hoped for. |

The ferry trip between Vancouver and its namesake island is very picturesque, weaving its way between densely wooded islands. Here, the ferry going in the other direction passes us and makes for a nice sunset silhouette. |

Shopping in the fish market. My mum points something out while Auntie Doreen gets the salmons in, assisted by Cousin Moira. |

On my last day, we went for sunday brunch in a revolving restaurant in downtown Vancouver. Great views as it slowly rotated at the rate of 1 revolution per hour or 0.0002777 Hz (sorry, the engineer in me needs to find expression even when I'm on the road). |

The Homer, Dunne, Taylor, Kirwan and Bridgman clans gathered together in the revolving restaurant. |
