Texas Culture
- Many claim it is more important to water the house than the yard.
There is a practical reason for this custom. The ground here
expands and contracts considerably in the summer heat. If the
foundation of the house is not watered, it will not expand or
contract as quickly as the ground, and it will crack
- Corn on the cob is available in grocery stores a week before
Easter.
- As educated Midwesterners, we already knew to use the word
"soda" instead of "pop" away from home. However, Texans say
"coke", regardless if it's Coke, Pepsi, or any other kind of pop.
- Cockroaches can run very fast. They can also fly. An inch-long
cockroach can flatten itself into a surprisingly thin crack. It is
unknown whether native Texas wives expect native Texas husbands to
kill cockroaches, but transplanted husbands are different.
- We are still looking for a cowboy. We haven't seen one yet. We'll
keep looking.
