Buffy sighed looking up at the walls she had ones loved, the man she had once thought she would love forever. She just didn't know what went wrong, trying not to let it get the best of her just made things worse. Buffy looked down at the white paint in the bucket, she sighed again before painfully bringing her hand down to the roller. The first stroke was the hardest, after that she felt nothing. No pain but yet no happiness. The family had been the best to her, she smiled a little at the thought of her having a family. It had been so long.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Angel knocking on the door. She looked in time to see him poke his head into the room.
"If you're hungry, dinner is downstairs." He looked around the room, frowning. "It'll get better, you know." He proceeded to enter the room.
"After Lilah left, I found it was the hardest thing I had to go through. I know I wasn't in love with her, but I did love her. So I'm here if you need to talk..." With that Buffy smiled, a soft smile.
"Thanks but I know
I'll be fine. See? I'm happy as can be!" Buffy plastered on a fake smile.
Angel chuckled a little, nodding. "Dinner is ready." He left her,
only for her to look down at the floor trying to surpress her memories.
-------------------------------------------
Buffy stumbled through the door, trying to be as quiet as she could, combing through the hair of her latest conquest.
"Riley!" She moaned
the man's name as she lead him up to her room.
They laughed as they stumbled back onto her bed, pawing lustfully at each other.
They were interrupted by the loud slamming of her door. Jolting up from her
position, Buffy was shocked to see Spike holding the doorknob.
"I see how it is." His voice was light considering the circumstances.
Buffy looked at him in fear and shock. "Spike? What are you doing here?"
Spike walked over to her, pushing the man called 'Riley' aside.
"I came to make things right. But I see you've already been moving on. I'm sorry to say, I haven't been able to do as much." He glared at Riley, who was now returning his clothing to the right parts of his body.
He looked frantically over at Buffy, "Look-I think I should..." Before he could say anything Spike pushed him out the door.
"Leave? Good conclusion." Spike smiled evilly at the other man as he ran for the door.
He returned his gaze toward Buffy who shifted awkwardly under his gaze, "I can't believe this, how could you baby?" He reached to touch his love, only to be pushed away.
"Don't turn this around on me... I loved you..." Buffy looked up at him with sad eyes, feeling the heartbreak all over again.
"That's why I left baby, I didn't want to be with her-"
"But you were! Spike you were! You don't know how bad that hurts!" Buffy told herself to be strong, to stop crying but it was easier sad than done.
"I know you want me back love. You are nothing with out me... I'm nothing without you. We belong together." Spike softly caressed her hair, the way he used to when she got mad at him.
"Spike please don't. I can't go through that again." Buffy pushed his hand away, sending anger through him.
"Yeah well, what about Mr. man over there? It seems you've been letting him go through a couple times." Spike laughed glaring at the girl.
"You're nothing without me. You hear me? Nothing!" Spike turned to leave, only to be face to face with Angel.
Angel was glaring at the Idol look alike. "You ever step foot in my house again, I will personally oversee your death." Angel gritted through his teeth.
Buffy had never seen him so mad and if it werent for her tears blurring her vision, she would have pushed Spike out the door herself. But thankfully Angel did it for her.
Spike looked back at her before leaving, "You trade me in for Mr.. broody... I thought you had something... I guess I was wrong." He turned his glare back to Angel and spit at him, laughing.
As Buffy watched Spike leave she broke down, not wanting Angel to see she turned away. Angel only walked over to her putting his arms around her. "It's going be ok."
Buffy sobbed into Angel's chest, smelling his sweet cologne. She let herself melt into him as if he were the she loved. She suddenly looked up only to find herself staring into the eyes of a gentle man, a man who had watched over her no matter what she had done wrong, a man she always wanted.
He smiled softly at her wishing she would stop putting herself through all of this pain.
"If it means anything... I think you are worth so much more than Spike has ever treated you." With that she let it out all over again.
He did all he could do, he held her like a child, like someone he cared for, which he did. But the strange thing was, that was all Buffy needed right now, to be held to be cared for. And for that she could feel a smile, she was going to be ok.
