Escaping the Storm

There’s a hard wind
Tapping against my window.
I hide inside the shower
And let the water shadow
His presence outside the door,
But he just keeps blowing in.

He brought the clouds
To fight amongst themselves,
So my room rattles
And I’m left by myself
In his unsettling arms
And the army of doubts he brought on in.

He tore down the hinges
And shoved my door down,
And came down the chimney
And blew my fire out.
He left me open to the rain,
The uncertainty that will hide in every grin.

His waters came
Far out the edges of town
Crawling up quickly
Up the corners and around,
So I went out into my car,
And traveled fast away from him.

But memory serves,
He follows back on the road.
And whomever I’ll be with
And whatever new home,
He’ll somehow form again
And be in every place I go.
