Hard Goodbyes

I’ve never gotten use to the hard goodbyes,
Their heavy weights pull down the night
And their mighty arms pulls the smiles aside.
It’s too much to carry the “so long”,
But I’ll exchange it for all the good things left behind.
Maybe time will grow over the holes you dug
And rust away all sharp things that cut into my sides.

Maybe then I’ll be ready to take my heart’s advice,
Listen closer than I did before, end up better
And find that it was better getting the hard goodbye
