On The Road
I love you now.
I loved you then
And I’ll still love you when.
You spat me out and I’m still your friend.
I’ll care about you even in the end.
It hurts when you don’t recognize,
I’ve done my best and I have tried.
I was the shelter, words you’d confide.
But soon I cried, and I thought you lied
So I left us space so I could hide.
But you took my arm and pulled me back,
Held me tight and tore down my goodbye.
Found out that would only last awhile.
You left me back down the road,
On the gravel I sat alone,
Salted eyes I stared at the stones
Wondering why you’d be so cold.
I knew we’d be the few
Who’d walk away from the hurricanes,
Push out the rubble and escape,
Sculpt beauty into what we’d make.
But you denied me, you rode away…
Your radio echoed through the rain,
Our song played out but now it fades.
