Tabula Rasa

He lost the horror drawn
Onto the wall inside his thoughts,
The ugly scenes, the memories
Covered with the pain that brought
All the things that cut,
All the things he’d hoped would rot.

He took the pencil
And turned it around
To scrub away all the dirt he’d found,
The fear that came to town
And became the weights that dragged the courage down.
He broke away, he rode on out.

He left it all back,
Behind him to be eaten by the rats,
And he erases what use to be,
Careful of temptations trap.
He’ll keep the lessons,
All the things that his past has taught.

He has everything that is new,
A bucket of water to douse the worry,
Fresh paper to write a different story
Where more will come to its ever after.
Opportunity starts over,
The beginning has been given again.
