The Drive
I was driving down to see you
With my affection in the back seat
And my heart in the glove compartment,
Hoping when I’d get there
You’d sit in the passenger side.
You were the destination
Behind that horizon I was eager to pass.
My best friend called that evening
And told me to turn around,
Because I was alone on the highway,
But I didn’t listen and the car broke down.
I called you for help, because
You were the closest
But you never answered
And I was left on the side of the road alone
Without even a goodbye.
