As in any place where large numbers of people from different geographic locations, age ranges, and religious or political beliefs come together, consideration for other people's differences and feelings must be a priority. #Friendly is now and has always been a place in which all people regardless of their backgrounds are welcome. This in mind, here are the channel rules, which are at best an outline. If a channel op feels you are behaving inappropriately they have the right to kick or ban you from the channel at their discretion. You do not have a *right* to join our channel, it is in reality much like you entering our home and we expect you to be a well behaved guest.

1. Under no circumstances will gendered, racial, religious or ethnic slurs be acceptable on the channel. Their use will result in you being kicked or banned.

2. #Friendly is a channel that has users who are children, profanity and sexually explicit conversations should be expressed in private messages not on the open channel. The channel language is English, any chat on the open channel should be in english, if you prefer to use another language to chat, please use private messages to do so or find a channel that uses that language.

3. #Friendly is NOT a place to troll for sexual partners or attempt to pick up, there are many of those channels on undernet, we are not one of them.

4. Flooding in the form of posting more than 4 lines of text to the channel at once, or repeating the same text over and over is unacceptable and will result in a kick or ban.

5. Excessive use of sounds or colours is not appreciated nor is it necessary, not everybody is using the same chat client and it results in flooding for some.

6. The use of scripts to post auto-invites to other channels or auto-msgs to people joining the channel will get you kicked. As will advertising other channels in ours. If you aren't joining our channel to chat in it, don't bother. Your bots are also not welcome, we have enough of our own thank-you.

7. Don't mess with the bots.

8. If you are a mschat user, please go to text mode, any other mode spews garbage onto the screens of all the people using different clients than you with every sentence you type. We are a text only channel.

9. If a channel operator asks you to stop doing something, listen to them. Failure to do so will result in a kick or ban if you continue the inappropriate behaviour.

10. We have no structured chat topics, most of us are here to relax, hang out, meet new people and catch up with old friends. It is not our responsibility to start or carry a conversation for you or to entertain you. If you don't find the channel enjoyable, then there are thousands of others to choose from, or you can create your own. So if you aren't happy in #Friendly please just leave and find something that is more to your liking.

If you feel you weren't treated appropriately by a channel operator in #friendly you can file complaints to mar21@one.net please include details such as time of incident, op's nick and /whois info and preferably a log of the events that occurred.

We like #Friendly being a relaxed, friendly place to chat. The real world has enough hassles, we don't need anymore on IRC. We look forward to getting to know you on the channel.
