British & Cosmopolitan

Barn Again Bistro
Not many places manage to echo the cuisine via the decor so successfuly as Barn Agai. You'll find both to be exciting, diverse and sometimes even a little wild. The likes of Dali, Picasso and Margritte adorn the walls, which are lit by fairly lights, and the food is equally vibrant in color and presentation. Global and eastern flavours mingle with modern British cuisine and fresh local fish. Food is served Mon-Fri 12pm-1.45 and Mon-Sat 6.30-9.45pm.

Blackfriars Cafe
Situated in the same bilding as Electric, Blackfriars Cafe Bar is a marked improvement on its predecessor. Although the decor has not been changed the tatty jumble of onrnaments - toy robots, Barbie dolls, ill-advised artwork - has been dumped to reveal the restaurant's airy, split-level and open-plan potential. More importantly, the food is streets ahead with a globally-varied menu taking in everything from Moroccan lamb patties (with toasted pockets no less) to Welsh rarebit. With a wine list to match the choice and quality of the food, this is a welcome addition to the city, either for lunchtime light-bites or a post-work pig out.

Malmaison
This place has subtle confidence that comes only to the finest resturants. The Malmaison breif is somewhere between brasserie and fine dining; i.e high quality food and presentaion, but with decent portions which ensure you go home feeling really well fed. The predominently French brasserie-style menu, and the sophisticated but warm atmosphere only adds to the experience. The interior is chic with art nouveau influences, and they boast excellent views of the Gateshead Millenium Bridge. At the heart of this brasserie is adventurous, electric and affectionately prepared food.
The restaurant is open Mon-Sun 7pm-10.30pm, 12pm-2.30pm and 6pm-10.30pm.
