Cafe Neon
Offering a good value continental menu, this lovely two-levelled cafe bar has been an official celeb haunt ever since footballer Nikos Dabizas adopted it as his favourite lunching ground. You can get anything from quick starters to generous mains.

Centurion
A tasteful and convenient cafe bar which also offers a brassiere and delicatessen (open 6am-6pm). The main  is a superbly restored Grade 1 listed former passenger lounge with Burmantoft tiling from 1850s. The brassiere is reasonably priced, and locally supplied dishes.

The Salsa Club
An excellent, funked up chilled out salseria and tapas bar. Good food, top live DJ's and unique atmosphere that oozes effortless sunny urban cool make this a must.

Side Cafe Restaurant
This is a lovely, homely cafe complete with artsy clutter, exhibitions by local artists and some great Quayside views. There is a cafe downstairs serving continental cafe food, and a lounge upstairs which hosts exhibitions by prominent North-East artists.
