Asha Raval
Originality in food and interior design ensures Asha Raval is a cut above your standard curry house. With extensive ala carte menu along with several tempting banquet options, the food selection is one of the best in the city. Bizarrely, existential poetry adorns the walls. Not a place to crawl into for a late night boozy curry with the lads.
Open Mon-Sat 12pm-2.30pm and Mon-Sun 6pm-12am.

27 Queen Street, Princes Wharf. 0191 232 7799

Latif Indian Restaurant
Spacious and highly decorative, Latif offers reasonablypriced but awesome dishes and has tapped right in to the family/couples end of the market. With two function rooms, and a capacity of 250, there's ample room for large parties. Customers enjoy special prices between 6.00pm and 7.30pm and the Thursday night buffet is a particular hit.

Leela's
This small, intimite restaurant is run by a husband and wife team from Kerala State in South West India, and it is perfect for curry connoisseurs. The dishes on offer are at the more expensive end of the market, but imaginatively made with good quality fresh produce.

Raj Tandoori
Asad Ali, head chef and owner of the Raj Tandoori has been cooking up a storm in Newcastle city centre for 32 years, and customers at this restaurant are obviously glad of his expertise.

Rupali's
This rip-roaring Indian has genuine cult status owing to the most famous dish and restaurateur in the city. Abdul Latif, Lord of Harpole has ruled over this restaurant for 23 years, and the food is both lively and generous. Fear the aptly named 'Curry Hell' challenge which comes with the disclaimer, 'finish it and it's free'. It's far more likely to finish you.
Check out Abdul's website www.curryhell.com where you can order the dreaded dish from anywhere in the world.

Salaam Bombay
Newcastle's first all-you-can-eat Indian buffet, Salaam Bombay is an attractively simple establishment where the emphasis is on a family atmosphere and good value traditional cuisine, rather than any attempt to kill off your tongue through an artificially vicious vindall. The tasty halal menu revolves around staples like Tandoori Chicken, Tikka Masala and Lamb Palak, but also offers plenty of veggie options. The wide selection of dishes veries from week to week and you can also get Kingfisher and Cobra Beers.

Tandoori Nights
This small, brightly lit restaurant has a substantial reputation and an even more substantial menu, including fiery Phal and er, scampi and chips. Relatively expensive, but you gets what you pays for, that's for sure. Superb range of choice and quality, and a takeaway service to boot.
