the All-Day Cafeteria Event
1998-1999
As told by Greg Irwin:
note: When this event occured, the cafeteria was open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM continuously.
Somehow, a group of us decided to see if we could stay in the cafeteria for the approximately 12 hours that it was open. I think that boredom was a factor in the decision.
Part of us also wanted to see how long it would take the cafeteria people to kick us out.
We picked a Saturday where all those involved had nothing to do for our event.
I was the first to arrive at a few minutes after 7:00 AM. I had breakfast waiting for the rest to arrive. Jonathan Fox arrived a short time later and we began a game of Star Wars Monopoly.
We played for a little while before others arrived. Then we stopped playing Monopoloy and began doing something else. I don't remember what. Eventually someone brought a TV.
During the course of the event, we also played Risk, watched Dune (the older version, at this point the Sci-Fi Channel version had not come out yet), talked, played other games, and in general did nothing.
The cafeteria workers were nice enough to let us go to the restroom and return.
They didn't kick us out until about 7:30 PM, thirty minutes after the caf closed.
We thought it was fun, but decided not to do it again, as we did not want to press our luck.
