The Northwest Passage
In front of Winebrenner.

This was a path leading from the fromt "porch" of Winebrenner toward Jennings. There was a garden of sorts with a tree and some vine-type ground cover in it. The vines valiantly struggled to grow over the path, but the constant foot traffic kept it at bay.

The school eventually gave up and put a sidewalk there.

It was named for the fictional passage that was believed to allow you to sail from the Atlantic to the Pacific by going north of Canada. In the 19th Century, many explorers tried in vain to find the Northwest Passage.
