The Panama Canal
The path leading from Jennings to the UC.
So named because despite the fact that it was a logical location,
getting a sidewalk poured there was a nightmare.
The UC was completed in 1993. When it was completed, students began cutting straight from the side door of Jennings to the UC. The grass on that path quickly died. When it rained, the path became muddy.
The student body petitioned the administration to pour a sidewalk there. They refused.
Some students, on their own, purchased pathstones (1'*1') and placed them on the path. This was a great improvement over the previous condition of the path. Mud was still a problem, but it wasn't as bad as it had been.
the Ninjas:
One time (about 1995), a group of pranksters known as the Ninjas stole the pathstones. They were caught and made to replace the pathstones.
Eventually, the present sidewalk was poured.
