Promotion Cycles and the Role of Rank

One member of the Triumvirate will be designated Promotions Officer. He will be in charge of all promotions, and while the other two members of the Triumvirate will have a say, the final decision will be his. There will be three different guides for promotion for enlisted. The Point System will be the primary guideline, but the Rank and Position and Rank and Promotion sections will also be taken into account. The final decision, however, will rest with the Promotion Officer, as these three guidelines are suggestions, and not rules.

Point System
This is the primary guideline for the Promotions Officer, to give him something to go by when deciding when to promote someone.


Points Received For:

showing up	+5 pts.
Kill	+1 pt.
Kill 50% opposing squad	+2 pts. and all kill points
Kill 75% opposing squad	+3 pts. (50% bonus + 1)
Kill 100% opposing squad	+4 pts. (75% bonus + 1)
Recruiting a person	+1 pt.
Being Killed	-1 pt.

If you show up and play in at least one round, you will not receive less than 5 pts.

Promotions Recieved at:

E1	-
E2	15 pts.
E3	17 pts.
E4	19 pts.
E5	21 pts.
E4	23 pts.
E7	25 pts.
E8	27 pts.
E9	29 pts.
W1	35 pts.
W2	38 pts.
W3	42 pts.
W4	46 pts.
W5	50 pts.


Officers will be promoted by the Command Squad based on the fact that they have too much responsibility and control over their squad.
Officers will still keep a track of their kills for award purposes.

When you are promoted, your points are reduced to 0
Points are a way to tell through your skill and dedication if you warrant promotions. There are other things that will get you promoted, based on the Command Squad’s decision.

NOTE: This is just a way to see if you warrant a promotion because of skill, it is by no means the only way to be promoted. Also just because you have enough points to be promoted doesn’t mean you will be promoted, attitude and willingness to play also play a big part in your rank. Skill level isn’t the only thing looked at during promotion cycles.

Rank and Position
This is the recommended system for position based on rank. The Promotions Officer is recommend, but not required, to keep this in mind when handing out enlisted promotions.


Enlisted
E-1 through E-3 will be the rank and file of the group.

E-4 will mean that a person is no longer a newbie. Specialist and Corporal are both E-4. If a person has been around long enough but the promotion board does not feel that person is ready for as much responsibility, that person will be given the rank of specialist.

E-5 and E-6 will be Squad Sergeants. E-7 might possibly be used as Squad Sergeant with enough seniority and if there is no need for a Company Sergeant.

E-7 and E-8 will be a Company Sergeant. There are two ranks in E-8, the second will only be used if we wish to make one E-8 superior to another.

E-9 will be the Unit Sergeant. A Company Sergeant might be an E-9 (first rank) if the Unit Sergeant is a Command Sergeant Major (E-9 second rank).

Officer
2nd Lt. to Captain will be company grade officers and Majors and above will be Field Grade officers. 2nd Lt. through Captain will be Squad Leaders. In a company, the higher ranking Squad Leader will be senior to the lower ranking one. If both are of equal rank, the officer with more experience will be senior to the other. The Senior Squad Leader will be the second in command to the Company Commander.

Major and Lt. Colonel will be Company Commanders. In the unit, seniority between the two Company Commanders (if we ever get that many people and if you actually read this far) will be determined by rank and then experience. The senior Company Commander will be second in command to the Field Commander. Of course, we actually have to get enough people to have two companies.

Colonel will be a member of the Triumvirate.

There will be no Generals. Shawn Gafford was the first and only General. The position was eliminated when he left the group.


Rank and Promotion
One difference from last year is that I plan on starting everyone out at E-1. There will be fewer people started out at E-2 or E-3, but if the promotions officer so desires, people can be started out higher. There will be no spot promotions. Promotions will be handed out at the beginning of each game, not at the end. It is recommended that a person not be promoted above their position, but they can be if it is desired. Again, this is a guideline and not a set of rules.


Enlisted

E-1 E-3. When a person reaches the necessary points, that person probably should be promoted, barring any disciplinary problems.

E-4. A person reaching the necessary points is most likely to be promoted to E-4. Again, this rank is to show a person is no longer a newbie. It is strongly recommended that a person not be promoted to E-4 without training.

E-5 E-6. When a person becomes eligible, that person should be promoted if there is a need for a Squad Sergeant, if the Promotions Officer thinks that the person is capable to handle the responsibility. This is not binding, if a person is good enough, that person can be promoted with out an open position. When an E-5 is eligible for promotion, he will probably be promoted to E-6 to show seniority.

E-7. When an E-6 is ready for promotion, he will probably be promoted if the Company Sergeant is an E-8. If there is an opening for Company Sergeant, the person will be considered for responsibility. Also, there is the possibility of promotion to officer.

E-8. This rank is recommended only to be given out to a Company Sergeant or an E-7 when there is a need for a Company Sergeant.

E-9. A Company Sergeant might be an E-9 lower third, but the Unit Sergeant will always be a Command Sergeant Major. E-9 upper third will not be used.

Officer
All officer promotions will be handled by the Triumvirate, and promotion to officer must be by unanimous decision of the Triumvirate.

2nd Lt. Normally, a person must be at least an E-5(Sergeant) to be promoted to officer. There can be exceptions. Preferably, the person would be an upperclassmen, but not necessarily. Of course, the person must be able to handle the "responsibility" and not have power trips. Also, the person must be competent and able to lead a squad to victory.

1st Lt. After half of a semester of service a 2nd Lt. will be considered for promotion. Conduct, competency and the recommendation of the Company Commander will be weighted heavily.

Captain. After three quarters of a semester of service, a 1st Lt. will be considered for promotion. The same conditions as above will be considered.

Major. When a Company Commander is needed, a Captain will be promoted to Major. A Squad Leader will not be a Major.

Lt. Colonel. A full semester of service will make a Major eligible for promotion to Lt. Colonel.

Colonel. Promotion to Colonel only comes when a spot is open on the Triumvirate.
