Training
One of the members of the Triumvirate will be in charge of training. There will be two levels of training, enlisted and officer. A person will not be promoted past E-3 without training. Additional training will also come with new positions, Squad Sergeant, Company Sergeant, Unit Sergeant. A person will not be promoted to officer without training. There will be a little training for a Company Commander. There will be no training for the Triumvirate because we basically make everything up.
Enlisted Training
As previously stated, no one will be promoted past E-3 without training. Training will probably be similar to last year.
Basic
Basic training will consist of explanation of rank, chain of command, marksmanship, squad formations, hand signals, building sweeps.
Squad Sergeant
The old XO training will be the model for Squad Sergeant training. The role of the Sergeant will be explained, the stuff from basic training will be explained more in detail to the point that the Sergeant could perform the training and keep the squad trained. Radio discipline will be introduced. Hopefully, by the time a person is ready to be a Squad Sergeant, he will have seen enough to understand the job. Early on, more explanation will be required.
Company Sergeant
The Company Sergeant will probably only need explanation about personnel decisions.
Unit Sergeant
The only training here will probably be in how to gather information in the event of misconduct.
Officer Training
Basic
Officer training will be based on CO training. Most likely, by the time a person is eligible for being an officer, he will be experienced enough not to need much training. Things discussed will include how to order a squad and how to execute building sweeps, etc.
Company Commander
A Company Commander will need to learn how to command two different squads.
Training Subjects
Explanation of Rank
Newbies will be shown the rank structure with the insignia and told about the promotion cycles. The relationship between rank and responsibility will be explained
Chain of Command
The Squad Leader gives orders through the squad primarily through the Squad Sergeant. The Squad Sergeant is responsible for the enlisted personnel of the squad, the Squad Leader is ultimately responsible for the conduct and performance of his squad. He will be responsible for squad discipline, usually handed out by the Squad Sergeant. Squad members will go through the Squad Sergeant to talk to the Squad Leader, especially in missions. Outside of missions, this system will be relaxed, especially for suggestions. Disputes will be handled through the chain of command, in missions or out.
A squad member with a problem will tell the Squad Sergeant. If the Squad Sergeant is incapable of dealing with the problem, he will take it to the Squad Leader. If the problem is with the Squad Leader, the Squad Sergeant will take it to the leader. Failure to do so will be considered misconduct.
If the Squad Sergeant fails to satisfy the person, the person will inform the Sergeant that he is going to the Squad Leader, if that person has not already been taken to the Squad Leader. If the Squad Leader fails to satisfy the person, that person will inform the Squad Leader and go to the Company Sergeant and ask to see the Company Commander. The Company Sergeant will deal with it if he can, if not, he will take it to the Company Commander. If that does not work, it will go to the Unit Sergeant and then the Triumvirate. Disputes will be handled within the chain of command or they will not be dealt with.
A Company Sergeant is responsible for the enlisted personnel in his company. The Company Commander is responsible for the conduct and performance of his company. The Senior Squad Leader will be the second in command of the company, but it will be appropriate for the Company Commander to give orders through the Company Sergeant.
The Unit Sergeant is responsible for the enlisted personnel of the entire unit, the Field Commander is responsible for the conduct and performance of the unit in missions, out of missions the Triumvirate will be responsible.
For the most part, orders will come down the chain of command, especially during missions, unless time does not permit.
Marksmanship
Newbies will have a chance to shoot at a target with supervision and be given suggestions on how to shoot better.
Squad Formations
Illustrations will mostly be used here
Building Sweeps
Illustrations will mostly be used here, the point of teaching this is to understand the basic principles behind going around blind corners rather than a rigid way of doing it.
Hand Signals
Halt, converge, see, move out, spread, hide, attack. When hand signals are in use, it is often because silence is needed to avoid discovery. Therefore, when hand signals are being trained, noise discipline will be too.
Radio Discipline
Radio discipline is important because it helps to cut out a lot of the "huh" and "what" conversations. It also cuts out the need for as many extra explanations, although some may be unavoidable.
Every unit with a radio will have a designation. Individuals will be referred to by their call sign. These designations will be used to make clear who is talking to whom.
Calling. Squad Leader of squad Alpha One wants to call Squad Leader of Beta Two. The way to call is to say who is being called followed by who is calling. The call should be "Beta Two, Alpha One." To acknowledge, Beta Two would reverse. " Alpha One, Beta Two, go ahead." The conversation can then take place.
Ending. When a conversation is ended, the last person to speak will signify by saying "out." This signifies the frequency is open for others to speak.
Personnel Decisions
The Squad Sergeant has very little to do here, since there is no level of organization lower than squad. Basically he will determine what role the person will have in the squad based on that person’s skills.
The Company Sergeant will be responsible for determining who goes in what squad. He will be able to transfer a person from one squad to another with the approval of the Company Commander. Once a person is assigned to a company, the Company Sergeant determines which squad.
The Unit Sergeant will be responsible for inter-company and command personnel decisions. He will determine who goes in what company. He will also determine where Squad Sergeants, Squad Leaders, Company Sergeants and Company Commanders go. Upon request of a Company Sergeant, he will be able to transfer an enlisted person from one squad to another with the approval of the Field Commander. He can call for the transfer or removal of a person in the chain of command. The decision would rest on the Triumvirate. In the absence of a Unit Sergeant, the Triumvirate will take on the duties.
Investigations
In the event of serious misconduct, the Unit Sergeant will figure out what happened and report to the Triumvirate. The second highest enlisted person uninvolved will investigate and report on behalf of the accused. The Triumvirate will make a decision, serious consideration will be given to bringing in the next two highest officers for an Extended Triumvirate depending on the magnitude of the decision.
In the event of minor misconduct, the Squad Sergeant will handle discipline at the direction of the Squad Leader.
