Poolta was built by Henry Robb Ltd., Leith in 1959. Poolta was built as a conventional ship for a weekly service between Hobart and New South Wales ports calling at Risdon as and when required. The company decided in 1968 to lengthen Poolta and so she was lengthened by 18.29 meters ,fitted with deck cranes and converted to a unit load carrier by Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Co. Ltd., Hong Kong. The vessels gross tonnage increased to 2800. In 1976 Poolta was sold to Bulkships and managed by ASP Melbourne. In 1981 Poolta sold to H.K. Unit Trust and managed by Hetherington, Kingsbury Pty. Ltd. Transferred to Segment Holdings Ltd.,Tonga in 1984 and renamed 'Kali' (Tonga). Sold to Golden Arrow International Shipping Navigation & Transport Co. Sharjah in 1988 and renamed 'Ali'. In 1989 sold to Ocean Shipping Services Ltd., St. Vincent and renamed 'Mahan'. In 1990 sold to Sentry Shipping Corporation, Dubai and renamed 'Sublime'. 1992 sold to Elahi Shipping Ltd., St. Vincent and renamed 'Blue Pearl', ship under arrest Bombay from October 1993 until December 1994. Renamed 'Ocean Success'. In 1999 sold to Indian shipbreakers arriving at Alang for demolition on 2nd. June 1999. (Historical information post USSCo. Ian Farquhar's 'Union Fleet') |
