A Brooklyn native, Susan Sporer is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She subsequently earned a Masters Degree in Urban Planning from New York University. Prior to her teaching career she worked at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. where she first administered a million dollar research grants program. After completing her Urban Planning degree she became a management consultant at Peat Marwick. She was involved in predevelopment planning studies, and market studies.
Ms. Sporer left consulting after the birth of her first child, Eric. She returned to school, and earned a Master of Education degree from Hunter College. She began working as a teacher at the Union Temple Preschool in 1991. In her years on our faculty, she had the opportunity to work with all three age groups in the Preschool, taking a year off during that time for the birth of her son Evan. Several years after returning to our faculty, Ms. Sporer assumed the position of Preschool Director in the year 2001, and has helped our Preschool to grow in wonderful and creative ways.
Ms. Sporer envisions the Union Temple Preschool as a "model school." We are in a unique location, adjacent to so many cultural institutions. She would like to see the school take greater advantage of this location and continue to incorporate these local resources into the preschool as we have done with the Brooklyn Museum of Art collaboration. At the same time she wants the school always to be a place where children learn in a hands-on, fun environment. Her focus will always be on the needs of the individual child as we prepare each of them for the world. She also hope that all of the children who attend our preschool leave here with a solid foundation of good Jewish values.
Ms Sporer is a resident of Carroll Gardens, where she lives with her husband Rich, and their two sons.
