Film Review - Enemy at the Gates Starring: Joseph Fiennes, Jude Law, Bob Hoskins, Ed Harris, Racheal Weisz I went to see this film having not read any reviews of it whatsoever. I was stunned almost as much by the negative small minded reviews as I was the staggering visual quality and performances from 3 of Britains finest actors. All of the negative reviews I have read are from Americans. The acting has been critiscised. Well Jude Laws been called Britains hottest property, and Jo Fiennes has has numerous awards and was good enough for the RSC.* Its remarkable how they got such a spectacle out of such a simple story. The film whallops Gladiator, in terms of realism, character, attention to detail, script, plot, need I go on. And I like Gladiator!

Other dumb accusations include "thin story line". So what was Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, and the absolutely ghastly Titanic? This is a true story, or based on it. The fact is, these critics dont like a film made with European talent about the communists.

The film blows you out of your seat from start to finish, begining with a brutal battle and ending in a remarkably simple but effective ending. The film however is just as capable of handling dialogue with some good chemistry between the main characters. Brutal, cold, moving and allways entertaining its an absolute must see. As for the critics, even Harry Knowles has praised it and we know hes caustic! Back to films page or Main?
