Part I: Paperwork

Most people join the Marshall guild because they are interested in fighting, not paperwork. Paperwork, however, is necessary. We put it here at the beginning, so you can see just how much is needed. To be a Marshall you need to do the following: If you are a member of the Marshall guild, but not the Ruler 1 Marshall, Ruler 2 Marshall, or Ruler 3 Marshall, nor the Marshal-in-Charge at an event:

Whatever your Kingdom requires to get you warranted (A one-time training),

Report on what you personally observed of any incident during combat or not, which the Marshal-in-Charge was required to report on.

If you are the Marshal-in-Charge of an event: Whatever your Kingdom requires to get you warranted (A one-time training by the Ruler 1 Marshall), A brief report on the event, including any incidents in which - A member was injured, - A fighter had to be disciplined (see also Appendix 5 on Sanctions).

This should go to the Ruler 2 Marshall, the Ruler 1 Marshall, and the GME. Any other reports that the GME requires. (If you do not know, write and ask him what he will want before the event --- it is a lot easier that way.)

If you are the Ruler 1, Ruler 2, or Ruler 3 Marshall:

Whatever the GME requires,(A one time training by a higher ranking Marshall, and a complete knowledge of this guide),

Regular reports on the state of fighting in your Crown. This includes summarizing the reports that you get from any Ruler 3 Marshall, or Ruler 2 Marshall. Ask your immediate superior how often you need to do this.

Any other reports that the GME requires. (If you do not know, write and ask him what he will want before the event --- it is a lot easier that way.)

If disciplinary action that extends beyond the bounds of a single event is being taken against a fighter in or out of your Empire (e.g. authorizations suspended or revoked, Courts of Chivalry), a brief account of what was done, to whom, and why. (If more information is needed, for example because of an appeal of the action, the GME will let you know.)

Individual training must be provided for each member of your local Marshall guild in your Empire, and a roster of qualified Marshall's must be maintained. (Information on the roster system may be obtained from the GME, if you do not have it.) This task may be partially delegated to the Ruler 2 Marshall, and the Ruler 3 Marshall.

Answer correspondence from the GME.

If you are GME:

At least quarterly, report to the UEMA Senate, and to the UEMA Commoner's council, on the state of the Marshall guild.

Approve and train the Ruler 1, Ruler 2, and Ruler3 Marshall's as they are appointed.

Answer correspondence from all Marshall's.
