New England Stone Walls:

Traditions and Techniques – A lecture and demonstration by the author of The Granite Kiss

Wednesday,  August 14th

Unity Town Hall, 7 PM

Kevin Gardner of Hopkinton, author of the recently published book The Granite Kiss: Traditions and Techniques of Building New England Stone Walls, spoke at the Unity Town Hall on Wednesday, August 14th.

The talk addressed the practical aspects of dry stone wall building (illustrated through the actual construction of a miniature wall), but will also consider the role the stone wall has played in New England’s history and culture and in the evolution of its landscape.

For more than 25 years Kevin Gardner has been a stone wall builder for Owen Associates, a small family business that designs, constructs, and restores stone walls and provides instruction in traditional New England dry stone wall building. He has participated in major restoration projects and training workshops at Canterbury Shaker Village, Acadia National Park, and many other historic sites in New England. He is also an award-winning  writer and producer for New Hampshire Public Radio.

Autographed copies of his book were available for sale. The talk was free and open to the public.
