R.A.W. A.K.A. B-Boy 3000 Age: 28
R.A.W. began spinning wax and making tracks in 1983. While experimenting at home with an analog Yamaha synthesizer, Synsonics Drums, and various affect pedals. He mixed Hip-hop, Brake Dancing Electro, and Miami Bass. His main focus has always been on breakbeats and different ways of being manipulated. Working his way up through the club scene, he refined his style as dance music evolved into techno breakbeat (130 BPM=) In 1992, he was introduced into the rave scene and immediately became a flavored favorite underground Mixologist. One year later, he helped forming L.A.’s first historic weekly Drum’ n Bass underground club called “JUNGLE” (other local L.A. DJ’s included, Oscar Da’ Grouch, Curious, and even DJ Trance.) His first commercial recording was on the ’94 L.A. hardcore Compilation (R-Wax) entitled “The Rush,” an adrenaline driving breakbeat techno track. During this time, his tape sales began to skyrocket as a small cult of R.A.W. fans supporting every mixed tape released. With classics like Turntable Phycho, R.A.W. is Dead, Who Wants to Battle, and P.O.W. it’s no wonder he is a legend in the underground scene. Then in 1997, R.A.W. and Chicago MC Verse Original 360 produce a fusion of Hip-hop lyrics and Evil Drum’ n Bass entitled, “Take Em’ Out” (N20’s Home Invasion EP.) Now focusing his energy on producing Jungle tracks, he created Mictlan Recordings and unleashed The Afterlife EP. After selling 1,000 copies of his first EP, R.A.W. teams up with Esassin to produce “Sound Storm” and another 1,000 copies fly out the prsss. Other releases include David Bryne’s “You Don’t Know Me,” Los Amigos Invisible Hard-Step Remix of “En Cuatro,” and Pharcyde’s “Passing Me By,” a classic rewind tune of ’98. His next release on Mictlan was the “New World Terrorism EP”, where DJ Curious? Makes his debut on wax with “Never Die” Also on this plate is R.A.W.’s remix of Curious “I Don’t Know” (a dope fusion of Dance Hall, Funk, and Hip-hop that explodes suddenly into hardcore jungle mayhem.) |
