UT Officer Disciplined For Using Excessive Force

A University of Toledo police officer is being suspended without pay for allegedly using excessive force when dealing with a suspect in April.

Robert Tolles will begin a 25-workday suspension Monday as part of an agreement between UT officials and the UT Police Patrolman's Association.

He will not serve all of the days at once, and five of them will be served only if he has another disciplinary action in the next few years, said Randy McElfresh, UT director of labor and employee relations.

The suspension stemmed from an April 3 incident in which Officer Tolles reportedly used excessive force in restraining the legs of a suspect.

The incident occurred adjacent to campus, and the suspect was not a university student, officials said.
