The officer that was under investigation for allegedly mistreating a student after a December fire alarm in Parks Tower is no longer under scrutiny.
Chief of Police John Dauer said the grievance was never official, but an investigation occurred anyway.
"There was never a formal complaint filed," he said, adding that he still had witnesses to the event interviewed.
"For my own peace of mind … I had a lieutenant interview some people," Dauer said. "I just want to make sure that my officers are professional."
The allegation was that Donte Stoner, 18, refused to leave Parks Tower during a fire alarm and was mistreated by the responding officer.
Stoner was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to the UTPD station to fill out papers.
Dauer said that after reviewing the evidence and the interviews, he came to a decision on the matter.
"The interviews came back and the officer was professional," he said.
Dauer added that Stoner, will not be formally notified of the findings because he never filed the proper complaint paperwork.
