A University of Toledo police officer yesterday was cited by Toledo police for failing to stop at an intersection after his cruiser collided with a van.

Both Officer John Lautzenheiser, 28, and the driver of the van, Carolyn Lee, 41, were treated at Toledo Hospital.

Police said Officer Lautzenheiser, who has been a University of Toledo police officer for six months, was southbound on Cheltenham Road about 6:15 a.m. when he struck Ms. Lee's van, which was eastbound on Kenwood Boulevard. The officer was returning to the University of Toledo after picking up something to eat at the end of his shift, University of Toledo Police Chief Joe Skonecki said.

The chief said disciplinary action, if any, will await the complete investigation.
