Bonnie's mom sounded like such an opposite. Perhaps in knowing he could not replace her he decided to go the opposite way.
I think Elice was woking hard trying to live up to the Duke's first wife. But, in doing so by buying material items, she only emphasized and worsened her differences.
She seemed like a trashy gal trying to put on so much glitz in the hopes that it would blind others to her real self.
