I could not believe the money either...and so little to show for it. I think the main point to it all was that the Krank Family had turned the holiday into a "look how cool I am occasion" like with 400.00 for ccustom cards? Or a Christmas eve bash EVERY YEAR! Then training all those people to expect that money. The odd thing about that was that Luther ended up promising them their money 6 months later.
They didn't buy stuff for Christmas that the others would like, rather the things were just expensive. He mentions a couple times clothes that were never seen again.
The gifts had no meaning.
Example: Just this morning my DH left me a Christmas ornament he secretly got at EPCOT yesterday with a note saying how much he loved the day. It will hang on our tree every year now and we will remember that day. MEANING!
