I think the choppy style was just right for me at this point in time. I am so busy with a million things that I would find it harder to follow one long story.
By breaking it up and putting the stories into themed sets, I think it painted a wonderful picture of growing up in the south.
I agree, it took some gettin used to, but it was worth it. As you said, it was a history lesson at the same time. It certainly was more enlightening tha any other text I have read about those times.
