I am not finished yet but saw this and decided to post to this now. There are major differences between Southern La. and La. north of I-10. Here in the New Orleans area and in cajun country, where I am from, we are majority Catholic. North of I-10, they are protestant and I think mostly Baptist. I know there are several dry (no alcohol) Parishes (counties) up there. The cultures are very different. The Northern Louisianians are more like how you would consider "traditional Southerners". They speak with more of a southern drawl, their culture is more similar, etc.

Henry went to med school with a guy from Alexandria (central La.). He use to say Jam balaya instead of Jumbalaya like we say it here. He also use to say "Shoo fire"! :-) They may even say crayfish and peeecan. It is a whole different country up there! So you may be better able to discuss whether the the depiction is accurate! Not many Baptists around from where I come from! Not many here either. There is a Catholic church in almost every neighborhood here, though! :-)
