I read several books over the summer while we were taking our vacation break.
I read Atlantis Found by CLive Cussler. DH loves this author and has wanted me to read it for a while. It was a good adventure type book, very informative about its topics, and the characters were good. THe premise is that some Nazi's have used Hitler's sperm to create a ton of minons who are part of the NEW final solution. Their solution is that they will release some of the Antarctican Ice Shelf and disrupt the axis tilt and ocean levels of the world and wipe out all mankind...except for themselves, of course. It is up to hero Dirk Pitt and his pals to stop this madness! Was pretty good book.
Next I read The Cabinet of Curiousities by Lincoln CHild and DOuglas Preston. A story containing their earlier characters from books likt The Relic, it focuses on a century old series of murders. THey are quite grisley and point to the possibility of prolonging life for a couple hundred years. Best part was that the FBI guy, Pendergast, returns...so creepy but cool! (He's from Nawlins, Hestia) I really did not figure out the whole scheme until near the end.
I then read Crystal Clear by Jane Heller. Was a cute girl book with a ton of belly laughs. Lady named Crystal loses her job, boyfriend, etc and at the urging of a friend, she undertakes a quest of personal enlightenment...she goes to Sedona AZ...and meets up with her ex-DH, who she still really likes. Plot thickens by one of her tour group getting kidnapped/murdered and her being a suspect. Was very cute, good mystery, zany and goofy, plus a bit romantic too!
After that, I read The NExt Accident by Lisa Gardner. She is a female murder police thriller author. THis is the 3rd book I have read by her and they are all somewhat predictable although I did not truly guess the bad guy until the end. The main character, Rainie, gets called in to investigate the "murder?" or her previous co-worker/lover's daughter. All thought it was a drunk driving accident, but Rainie uncovers more and it turns into a plot to destroy her lover. Was suspenseful and good story...for summer reading, but the characters are somewhat grating...they have chips on their shoulders and you want to smack them upside the heads too much.
That is my summer list. I am right now finishing up Cha Cha Cha by Jane Heller (I really like her books) which is funny, a mystery and the same style as the others. This one has more explicit sex than the others of her books I have read, but I am NOT complaining. THis lady, Alison, loses everything...her DH who goes back to his first wife, her money because her DH invested everything in the stock market before it crashed, her part time job, and the bank is ready to foreclose on her huge house that nobody can afford to buy during the recession! Then, in desperation, she takes a job as a maid...to a writer who writes the books about celebrities that scoop up ALL THE DIRT...then she finds the woman murdered. Right now, in the book, Alison has been framed for murdering the lady and for dealing drugs.
That is my summer reading list.
