It was kind of eerie reading her thoughts about her ex and how he tried to control her. Subtly and not too outrageously, but still controlling. Telling her what colors to wear, only going to places he wanted etc.
Then his admition that the only reason he got married was he was afraid she'd leave him...well, DUH! He was just waiting for something better to come along. ARGH!!
All I could think of was how lucky she was to find out after only 4 years (even though she said several times that she could not believe she wasted that much). She was lucky it was only 4 years. My ex trapped me for almost 15 years. We went out when we were 15, then married at 22. I was so under his thumb, I knew it was wrong but could not escape.
THANK YOU GOD! That I came to my senses and realized I did not have to put up with his controlling nature and mental and emotional abuse. That I was a worthy person and that he was the one who needed help.
LONG STORY....let's just say I identified with Laura a lot!
