I don't get it either. WHy would you think that someone who stays home does not work.
My MIL actually does this, living from money my FIL left her through life insurance, investments, etc. SHe spends a lot of time reading, gardening, cleaning, and visiting friends. Mostly she re-does her house. There is always something that needs to be added, fixed, painted, improved, etc. I think that is how she keeps herself busy.
