Or "I dont even get a iota of this" - ik snap er geen iota van
Or "Dat ist koeterwaals voor mij"
(b.van.bezooijen@chello.nl writes: It means unintelligeable language.
The word is not derived from the word 'koe' (cow) but from the
Flemisch word 'koeter', small farmer (Cf. Dutch 'keuterboer', small
farmer). 'Waals' means 'Wallon language', i.e. French. The high status
French speaking could not or would not understand Flemish, and the
French those 'koeters' produced was unintelligeable to them. Hence
'koeterwaals', the inconprehensible result of a Flemish farmer trying
to speak French.)

Monique: Do you know what Amsterdam means? It was built around the
13th century as a very small fishing village with only wooden houses
located near the Amstel River. It was only in the 17th century that
Amsterdam started to get any economical meaning, the golden age,
when the Dutch started to explore the world and their trade with the
east, we still have all these beautfil building of these rich in the
center, at the channels, big big houses, they are all monuments now,
the whole center of Amsterdam.

Hello. Selamat pagi, kamu. Selamat pagi buat(for) kamu juga (also) .

good bye - selamat tinggal (tinggal = stay)[said by person leaving]
bon voyage - selamat jalan (jalan = journey) [said by person staying]

The word "selamat" is used in most greetings in Bahasia Malayu.
By itself, it means "congratulations," but when combined with other
Bahasa words, the combination becomes a common greeting.

selamat datang = welcome (datang = come)
selamat pagi = good morning (pagi = morning until 11 AM)
selamat siang = good afternoon (siang = afternoon from 11 AM to 3 PM)
selamat sore (so-ray) = good afternoon (sore = 3 PM until nightfall)
selamat malam = good evening (malam = after dark)
selamat tidur = good night (tidur = sleep)

Malays often shorten phrases or words by leaving out some of the words.
Often you'll hear just "pagi" or "siang," without the "selamat" tacked
on in the beginning, similar to the shortened "g' morning" or "mornin'"
in English. Although Bahasa is for the most part a phonetic language,
you'll hear some slurring on very common words: selamat, for instance,
will more often be sla-MAT than SE-la-mat. Such slurring (and the use
of heavy duty slang) is more common among the Indonesians than among
the Malaysians.

Apa khabar = How are you? ("what's the news?" Apa=what, khabar=news)
Respond to someone's "Apa khabar?" with "Khabar baik" or "Baik baik."
Both phrases mean "I'm fine." "Baik" is also the word for "good."

Goodbye - Mari. Saya pergi dulu. "Excuse (me). I - go - first"

To say good-bye more informally, Malays use the phrase
Sampai jumpa lagi - "until we meet again / see you later
Common in Indonesia is "da-da," from Dutch, like "bye-bye"
It is not advisible to use this term in Malaysia because
it also means "illegal drugs," which are very dangerous to possess.

This is a list of humourous linguistics in various languages that
I've encountered:

In America, if you want to split the cost of an evening out, you say
you are "going Dutch," since the Dutch are well known for their
frugality. The Dutch, on the other hand, call the same arrangement
"op z'n Amerikaans" (going American) because the Americans are
known for their egalitarian nature!

In English, the bird "turkey" was named as though it came from Turkey.
In Turkish, the bird is named "hindi" as though it came from "Hindistan",
which is Turkish for India. (Any Hindi speakers wish to comment on
the Hindi name of a turkey?)

Also, in Turkish, the word for cannibal is "yam yam", pronounced
"yum yum" as if it tasted good. Really.

French fries aren't really French. In fact, they were invented by the
English (so greasy, you know), who call them chips. The French call
them "pommes frites" or "fried apples [of the earth]".

In Wien (the German name for Vienna), they like to eat Frankforters.
In Frankfort, they eat the same thing, but call them Wieners.
