Duncan receives a letter from his long time French pen pal Marie Ellen, explaining that she is coming to visit him. Suddenly Duncan is beside himself. He doesn’t want her to come – apparently he has made himself out to be someone he’s not in his letters and doesn’t want her to come with her boyfriend and see who he really is. Planning to leave, Molly grabs him and tells him she will ‘make it happen.’
Archie comes across a man in the garden – he complains that the signage around the place is inappropriate, while Archie explains that it’s a private garden. The man leaves in a huff – but little does Archie know that this man is the Health Inspector (Mr Bar) coming to do an inspection of the place.
Lexie finds Stella upset in the kitchen, seems that her divorce came through. Lexie tells her she should be celebrating so Stella invites Lexie around for a couple of drinks.
Molly calls a meeting: She explains that things have to change a little bit while Marie Ellen is staying at
Glenbogle. Apparently Duncan told her that he was the Laird, so Molly sees it only fit that Duncan and Archie swap jobs for a couple of days. Molly and Lexie take it upon themselves to educate Duncan in the way of the Laird. How to dress, eat, talk and where to sit etc.
It is only now that Archie finds out that Mr Bar is inspecting the premises and he wants the Head Ranger, being Archie, to help him. And from the start things don’t go well – already these two men have got off on the wrong foot, and apparently Golly’s bagpipe playing is to loud.
Marie Ellen arrives and Duncan is besotted, and also trying to keep up this façade of being the Laird. Marie Ellen is looking around tehhouse and wonders why Molly has so many pictures of Archie. Molly explains she’s very fond of him – he’s her project. Came from a poor family, has a mental illness and was an alcoholic and a junkie. the only way to save him was to take him in and let him work for her.
Stella asks about Lexie and Archie. Lexie says given half a chance, but he never does. Stella tells her that she has to make her own
chances.
Marie tells Duncan that her and Ala are having problems. She thought he was going to propose in
Edingborough, but he didn’t and that’s why ran away to Duncan. Duncan suddenly thinks he might have a chance with her.
The day for inspection comes. It starting with chainsaw sculpting, but Archie doesn’t even remember to put the Petrol in the chainsaw.
Duncan is preparing to take Marie out on a romantic picnic. He is relying on information from girls magazines to help him know what to do since he hasn’t taken a girl out since he was ten. Lexie and Golly advise him to go for something he’d think was romantic and not something out of a magazine.
Duncan takes Marie to the beach to fly her kite. They have a wonderful time.
Meanwhile Archie and Stella are taking Mr Bar up a trail to do some more inspecting when he collapses, clutching his heart. Archie and Stella attempt to do CPR on him when he tells them that they did not check his pulse.
Duncan tries to tell Marie that he loves her but in interrupted when the fire alarm goes off and he must go get the fire engine. Archie prepares to evacuate: everyone must be out of the house within 3 minutes of the alarm going off. But Mr Bar won’t budge so he picks him up, without his trousers on and takes him outside. They prepare to fire engine only to find it has no water in it. Golly comes out and explains he set the alarm off with his blow torch, revealing that the house wasn’t fully evacuated after all.
Mr Bar tells Archie and Stella Glenbogle should be closed by tomorrow until everything is fixed. He also suggests firing Archie "however admirable the equal opportunities" intentions were.
Duncan finally tells Marie he tells her he loves her. Marie at first thinks it is a joke, but then explains she still loves Ala, leaving Duncan hurt and embarrassed.
Lexie decides tonight’s the night to make her move on Archie and asks Stella’s advice on what to wear. Stella offers her a dress, but secretly, to it is revealed that she has feelings for Archie also. Lexie goes over to Archie’s, dressed to impress and wanting some dinner. Archie and Lexie have an intimate chat and are having a good time before Stella interrupts by wanting to talk to Archie about the Lawyers.
Golly, Duncan and Lexie have a plan. Lexie and Duncan must keep Marie Ellen at Glenbogle as long as possible while Golly ‘makes the call’.
Archie explains to mister bar the circumstances on why he’s the head ranger and that he’s actually the Laird. But Mr. Bar thinks he’s crazy.
Molly meets Mr Bar in the garden picking some Glenbogle roses. She remembers where she has seen him before. About 30 years ago he proposed to his wife in that very garden while Molly took a photo. She has it all written down in her journal. Molly manages to manipulate Mr Bar into keeping Glenbogle open by telling him the only reason she is trying to keep this house alive is so that Hector will come back to her. She made up the story that Hector left her for an upholsterer. he empathises with her and agrees to give Glenbogle six moths grace.
The secret that Duncan has organised for Marie Ellen is that he called Ala and told him where she was, bringing them back together.
Stella tells Lexie that she’s going for a drink with Archie to talk about ‘business plans’, though she is wearing one of Lexies very ‘casual’ tops, with the word MAYBE, splashed across the front. Lexie invites herself to this ‘business meeting’ as well, wearing a top with DEFINITELY written on it. Archie will know what his options are. |
