Season 3 Episode 8

Hector is hosting a reunion for his fellow soldiers, but with all Hectors huffing and puffing it turns out only 6 people are coming, the rest haven't responded or died. Molly specifically asks about 'Toad' - who was best man at her wedding. Apparently he hasn't RSVP'd, much to Hectors disappointment. Toad is called 'the hero of halfway hill' as he saved Hectors life during the war - which Hector is ever grateful for.
So, as the old soldiers turn up in a quick comical scene of coughing and spluttering apparently Glenbogle have hired the ancient painting of "The Proud Piper' from a man named Mr Chris McCullen, the painting being worth a nice 20,000 pounds.
But Toad hasn't turned up, unfortunately, until we see an old man getting out of a laundry truck down the road.
Lexie, after cooking a traditional meal which Hector asked for, is proved right when they all find it rather unpleasant and so Archie offers to go and buy some more food. He goes into the kitchen, where Stella is heckling Lexie about Archie, and asks for the chequebook so he can go shopping. Stella immediately suggests she come along for the ride, seeing she's paying for it. Archie agrees but Lexie has other ideas, offering to come as well because she's cooking the food. Archie solves this problem by making Stella and Lexie go together. On the way back from the shops, Lexie and Stella find and old man walking along the road. Stopping to find out where he's headed it seems that it's his lucky day - he's going to Glenbogle.
An unfortunate accident happens while Stella and Lexie are cleaning up: Lexie falls over and knocks a pike from it's stand, hurtling onto the painting and ripping "The Proud Piper." Stella immediately fetches Archie and puts Lexie down in front of him - blaming her for the accident. Archie doesn't blame her, he knows it's an accident, but fetches Molly to see is she can repair it in any way before Mr McCullen comes to pick it up tomorrow.
The old man Lexie picked up, happened to be Toad. Apparently he is a fugitive, escaping from gaol in '89 after being caught for jewel theft. He came back to Glenbogle, in spit of the risks of being caught, as he has some 'unfinished business to attend too.
But, not all is well, the police are looking around Glenbogle for Toad, and therefore Archie and the gang must attempt to hide Toad. Archie insists that Toad can only stay one night, but is touched by the story of mateship between the two men when Hectors retells the story where Toad saved his life on the battlefield.
The accident with the picture is still bothering Lexie. Archie says he doesn't hold it against her. Stella says there is only one way to save the estate from paying 20 grand: Lexie should take full responsibility for the damage - meaning that McCullen can sue Lexie instead of the estate (she wouldn't have to pay anything unless she had an extra 20 grand lying around) but that is not the point. Archie couldn't possibly let her shoulder all the responsibility, and hopefully they can come up with another way.
Hector and Toad plan an escape in the back of a truck in a laundry basket but it is called off when the police are blocking all escape routes from the estate.
Stella shows Mr McCullen the painting. He is furious and exclaims that Glenbogle must pay for the damage, plus expenses.
After the first failed escape, Archie explains they can't possibly risk them all going to gaol for harbouring this fugitive. Hector disputes this but Toad agrees with Archie. Toad explains the real reason he's here: to tell Hector the real truth about Halfway Hill. It was Hector that saved everyone's life, not Toad. Hector was the one who blew up the machine gun, but got knocked out in the blast and Toad carried him back. Toad gives him his medal and leaves, leaving Hector astonished into silence, and Archie amazed at what his father actually did.
Lexie solves the problem with the painting. Toad is an expert about all the history of his battalion and the proud piper they have in front of them is a fake. The original was destroyed in 1935. What gave it away was the cuff of the pipers uniform. The three red buttons didn't exist on the original. McCullen is left red faced and angry while Lexie has one up on Stella.
Next is toads escape: All the soldiers start exiting the castle in yellow raincoats, causing a large amount of confusion amongst the police. Molly distracts another policeman by sending him on a wild goose chase down some far field while Lexie and Stella detain a policeman with their sheer beauty.
Lastly, while Lexie and Stella are in the car, it is formerly announced the the fight for Archie's affections is on. Toad gets away in a seaplane and Hector sleeps happily with eth knowledge that he is a hero after all.
