F3000 Autumn Cup, September-October 2000

F3000 mini-series in Britain fails at the last minute

In February 2000 a new four-race mini-series was announced for Britain. Four races were to be held in the Autumn, the intention being to give International F3000 teams something to do after the unusually early end to the season in August. The current Lola T99/50 machinery was to be used. It was expected that many of the teams would use the races to try out potential drivers ahead of the 2001 season.

The championship was to visit Brands Hatch twice and Donington and Snetterton once. The races would last for 100km and had been scheduled not to clash with F3000 Italia rounds. The series would have brought the total number of F3000 races in Britain to six, with the traditional GP support round of the International series at Silverstone and the F3000 Italia round at Donington.

The promoter of the series was Edenbridge Racing boss Peter Briggs, the man who attempted to get British F3000 series off the ground in 1997 and 1999. It was to be run by the British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC).

The championship was unfortunately cancelled as organisers could not guarantee grids, due to a small number of drivers signing up to the series. Initially the series was cut from four races to three after the first Brands Hatch race was cancelled, but the situation failed to improve.
