Bologna Motorshow F3000 Sprint, December 10th 2001
["Trofeo Indoor F3000"; for Euro 3000 teams]
Thomas Biagi won the indoor Euro 3000 sprint event this year, having joined Fortec Italia Motorsport, the team run by ex-F3000 champ Vincenzo Sospiri. Biagi dominated the event, consistently setting the fastest times from his first practice laps in the morning onwards. The Italian, this year's Euro 3000 series runner-up, beat team-mate Salvatore Tavano in the semi-finals. The other semi-final series of two-car sprints saw former Jaguar test driver Tomas Scheckter (ADM Motorsport, pictured) defeated by Marco Cioci (Durango). In the final for third place, Tavano was victorious against Scheckter. The first run of the final for the overall victory went to Biagi, while Cioci had a 180º spin on the slippery track during the second duel, Biagi taking the overall victory. Gabriele Lancieri (Sighinolfi Autoracing) suffered clutch failure in the morning, the team making repairs during the lunch break for the Italian to return in the quarter finals, where he was defeated by Cioci. In the qualification runs Lancieri's team-mate Luca Vacis met Formula Renault frontrunner Ronnie Quintarelli (ADM Motorsport). Vacis had the 6th best time overall and so was admitted to the quarter finals.
