Bologna Motorshow F3000 Sprint, December 1997
Oliver Tichy (pictured) took the honours at the Bologna Motorshow, defeating Durango's Thomas Biagi in the final. Alfredo Melandri, sadly to lose his life in an Italian F3 testing accident in 1998, defeated Stefano Gabellini for third. The indoor two-by-two sprint races were held for current Lola T96/50 F3000 machinery for the first time, after hosting F1 cars between 1988 and 1996 - Giancarlo Fisichella, Rubens Barrichello and Johnny Herbert among those who tasted victory in F1's last non-championship races.
